BEIJING, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.65 percent to 2,915.37 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.97 percent lower at 8,606.58 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 662.19 billion yuan (about 92.83 billion U.S. dollars), down from 656.5 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Shares related to online car-hailing led the gains, while the precious metal sector is among those suffering major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 3.04 percent to close at 1,671.44 points Tuesday. ■
