RIO DE JANEIRO, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Former Barcelona forward Martin Braithwaite has joined Gremio on a free transfer, the Brazilian Serie A club said on Monday.
The 33-year-old Denmark international, who parted ways with Spain's Espanyol earlier this month, agreed in principle to a deal that runs until December 2025.
"The player will arrive in Porto Alegre to undergo medical exams and, if he passes them, he will sign a contract with the club," Gremio said in a statement posted on social media.
Braithwaite will join a list of foreign players at Gremio that also includes Argentine defender Walter Kannemann, Paraguayan midfielder Mathias Villasanti, Venezuelan playmaker Yeferson Soteldo and Argentine winger Cristian Pavon.
Gremio are currently 18th in Brazil's 20-team Serie A standings, with 14 points from 16 games so far this season.
Braithwaite, who has been capped 69 times for Denmark, played at Barcelona from 2020-22, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists. ■
