WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Sunday his intention to drop out of the presidential race, after a growing number of Democrats expressed concerns over his viability in the election since a disastrous debate performance late last month.
"While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term," Biden said in a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. WARSAW -- An accident occurred Sunday in a coal mine in southern Poland, leaving a 54-year-old driver dead, according to the Polish Press Agency.
The driver's cabin fell and hit the floor in the Knurow-Szczyglowice Coal Mine. The victim was declared dead after being transported to the surface. (Poland-Mine-Accident)

RAMALLAH -- Three foreign pro-Palestinian activists were injured on Sunday during an attack by Israeli settlers in the village of Qusra near Nablus in the northern West Bank, Palestinian sources reported.
The settlers assaulted the activists, two American women and one German man, with sticks while they were assisting Palestinian farmers in plowing farmland and clearing weeds, local sources said. (West Bank-Israel-Attack)

BEIRUT -- Two Lebanese soldiers were injured on Sunday in an Israeli attack targeting a watchtower in the southwestern border region, according to the Lebanese military.
The Lebanese Army Command reported that the Israeli strike hit the army watchtower located outside the village of Alma al-Shaab. The two soldiers were wounded in the attack and were transferred to the hospital. (Israel-Lebanese Soldiers-Killing) ■
