NEW DELHI, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of flights were canceled or delayed, and operations at some private hospitals were affected on Friday in India due to the global Microsoft outage, said officials.
One of the country's major private commercial airlines IndiaGo had to cancel over 250 flights, as many more were delayed at various airports due to the Mircosoft bug.
"Flights are canceled due to the cascading effect of the worldwide travel system outage, beyond our control. We truly appreciate your patience and support," IndiGo said in a statement.
The airline also said that the option to rebook a flight or claim a refund was temporarily unavailable.
Passengers across India were seen stranded at airports, or receiving hand-written boarding passes.
Meanwhile the country's central bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said that the financial sector was not so affected, and that only 10 banks faced minor disruptions.
"Only 10 banks and NBFCs (Non-bank financial companies) had minor disruptions which have either been resolved or are being resolved," the RBI said in a statement.
Some private hospitals faced problems in normal operations due to the Microsoft outage during the day.
The chain of Max Healthcare hospitals in the country faced problems due to the Microsoft outage. Its hospitals located in Delhi too faced problems.
The country's Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the federal government was in touch with Microsoft. ■
