MEXICO CITY, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Pei Zhimin has been working in South America for ten years. He started working in Venezuela in 2014 for 6 months, then moved to Brazil for market development. Afterward, he was sent to Bolivia and served as the chief engineer for a highway project until April 2019.

Currently, Pei works as both a project manager of the Machu Picchu Highway Tunnel and a resident engineer for the China Railway Tunnel Group Co., Ltd. As a project manager, he needs to ensure the normal operation of complex rectification projects, determine the project's work plan, review various material requirement processes and procurement prices, and assess whether resource needs are reasonable. As a resident engineer, Pei needs to determine the details of each task based on the overall work plan, require each engineer to complete their tasks within a limited time, and strive to achieve the project's safety, quality, progress, and cost goals.

Since serving as the project manager of the Machu Picchu Tunnel, Pei has aimed to integrate his work experience with local technology to improve the technical level of local engineers and effectively promote domestic construction experience.

"I hope this project will help Peruvians understand our company and open up the market," Pei said.

The Machu Picchu Tunnel project, spanning 1,987.5 meters, is a key project to improve regional roads in Cusco Region. It is the largest and longest two-way single-lane road tunnel in Peru. The project can effectively improve local traffic conditions after completion.
