PHNOM PENH, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's imports of diesel fuel and petroleum oils rose by 22 percent in the first half (H1) of 2024, according to a report from the Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday.

The value of diesel fuel and petroleum oil imports totaled 1.27 billion U.S. dollars during the January-June period this year, up 22 percent from 1.04 billion dollars over the same period last year, the report said.

The Southeast Asian country spent about 757.5 million dollars for diesel fuel and 512.5 million dollars for petroleum oils in the H1 of this year, up 16 percent and 31 percent, respectively, compared to the same period last year, the report added.

Cambodia currently relies entirely on the imports of diesel fuel and petroleum oils as its seabed's oil reserves have not been tapped yet.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy predicts that the demand for oil products in Cambodia will increase to 4.8 million tons in 2030, up from 2.8 million tons in 2020.

At gas stations on Tuesday, regular gasoline costs 4,300 riel (1.05 U.S. dollars) per liter, as diesel costs 4,200 riel (1.02 dollars).
