JERUSALEM, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Israeli researchers have created advanced sensors that imitate the complex abilities of natural nervous systems, Ben Gurion University (BGU) announced on Monday.

These sensors have wide potential applications in fields that need precise and versatile sensing, such as robotics for more lifelike interactions and healthcare for advanced diagnostics.

Traditional methods often fall short of achieving the performance of natural systems. However, the new materials developed by the Israeli team, created using precise 3D printing and advanced signal processing, are capable of responding to various stimuli.

In a study published in the Chemical Engineering Journal, the team introduced new 3D-printable materials made from ionogels and single-walled carbon nanotubes. These materials can conduct both ions and electrons, allowing them to process different signals at the same time. The sensors show high sensitivity to a wide range of temperatures and pressures.

The researchers plan to improve these sensors, adding more functions and enhancing their performance for various uses.

They aim to develop 3D-printable artificial skins and incorporate movement for intelligent soft systems in robotics, touch technology, healthcare, and more. They also plan to use learning-based methods to create autonomous soft robots.
