RABAT, July 12 (Xinhua) -- The "Ibn Battuta and China" academic seminar was held Friday at the Chinese Culture Center here in the capital of Morocco.

During the seminar, experts and scholars from Morocco and China discussed the contemporary value and significance of "The Rihla," the travelogue written by Ibn Battuta, a world-renowned Moroccan traveler, explorer, and scholar in the 14th century.

In his speech, Chinese Ambassador to Morocco Li Changlin paid tribute to the visits by Battuta and his Chinese counterpart, traveler Wang Dayuan, to each other's countries back in the 14th century.

He added that in recent years, the mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and Moroccan peoples have reached a new height.

He said China-Morocco relations have become a model of mutual respect and equal exchanges between different countries and civilizations, praising the vigorous cultural exchanges and mutual learning between the two sides.

Li Wei, vice president of the International Confucian Association, said the seminar per se reflected the enduring charm of "The Rihla" and the dialogue between civilizations through the spread of classic literature.

Nasser Bouchiba, chairman of the Africa-China Cooperation Association for Development in Morocco, said Battuta's travelogue has influenced generations of Moroccans. He called on Arab scholars to learn from Battuta's philosophy and seize opportunities to deepen comprehensive cooperation with China.
