YANGON, July 12 (Xinhua) -- A commemoration ceremony of the 2024 World Population Day conducted by the Ministry of Immigration and Population was held in Myanmar's Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday, the state-run media Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) reported on Friday.

As the world population grows, challenges such as poverty, unemployment, inequality, and natural disasters have arisen. To address these issues, World Population Day is celebrated globally, the report said, citing Myint Kyaing, Union Minister for Immigration and Population.

The union minister added that the event focused on how to help vulnerable population. Only through a census can the government know the exact number of the vulnerable population. Therefore, plans are underway to conduct a national census in October this year, the report said.

World Population Day is observed on July 11 every year worldwide.
