BEIJING, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.03 percent to 2,971.3 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.18 percent lower at 8,854.08 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 687.3 billion yuan (about 96.4 billion U.S. dollars), down from 787 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Shares related to the real estate and banking sectors led the gains, while those in the coal and precious metal sectors suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.09 percent to close at 1,683.63 points Friday. ■
