GAZA, July 11 (Xinhua) -- The Palestinian death toll from ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip has risen to 38,345, the Gaza health authorities said on Thursday.
During the past 24 hours, the Israeli army killed 50 people and wounded 54 others, the health authorities said in a press statement.
At least 34 people were killed in Israeli air and artillery attacks on Gaza City and Rafah, Palestinian sources said.
The Civil Defense Service in Gaza said in a statement that dozens of bodies lying in the streets of the al-Rimal neighborhood and the Al-Sina'a and Al-Katiba areas in Gaza City.
Four Palestinians, including a child, were also killed in an Israeli raid on the Tal al-Sultan neighborhood, west of the city of Rafah, according to medical sources.
Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee said in a press statement on Thursday that the Israeli forces killed Hassan Abu Kwaik, head of the security operations department in the central Gaza Strip within Hamas' internal security apparatus.
Adraee said that Kwaik was involved in numerous "terrorist" operations against Israel.
Israel launched a large-scale offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip to retaliate against a Hamas rampage through the southern Israeli border on Oct. 7, 2023, during which about 1,200 people were killed and around 250 were taken hostage. ■
