ZHENGZHOU, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai Port secured a hard-fought 1-0 away victory over Henan FC, marking their 11th consecutive win in the 2024 Chinese Super League (CSL) here on Friday.
The match was delayed by around 30 minutes due to heavy rain. Despite the waterlogged pitch and persistent downpour, the intensity of the game remained undimmed. Both teams engaged in fierce competition from the outset, with Shanghai launching aggressive attacks while Henan's defense remained resolute.
The pivotal moment came in the 42nd minute of the first half, when Shanghai's star player Oscar delivered a long pass from midfield to teammate Wu Lei, who broke into the box and was brought down by Henan goalkeeper Wang Guoming, earning a penalty.
Oscar successfully converted the penalty, giving Shanghai a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The slippery conditions made passing difficult for both sides. The second half continued to be a stalemate, with Henan launching swift attacks but unable to alter the scoreline. ■
