JOHANNESBURG, July 3 (Xinhua) -- A senior official from the South Africa's African National Congress (ANC) said Wednesday that the priority of the newly-formed coalition government would be the economic growth and job creation.

The most important things for the Government of National Unity (GNU) are to turn around the economy and create jobs, said ANC's Secretary General Fikile Mbalula at a media briefing at the party's headquarters in Johannesburg.

A total of 11 political parties got together to form the GNU after the May 29 elections did not produce an outright winner with 51 percent of the votes.

Challenges remain ahead for the new South African administration as the country's economic growth remains weak while the unemployment was high, Mbalula noted.

"The ANC will continue to exercise its leadership role by engaging with every party in the GNU and those who are not part of the GNU, in the interests of transformation, redress, national unity, peace and stability," said Mbalula.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the lineup of his new national executive Cabinet Sunday and the new Cabinet was sworn in Wednesday.
