TEHRAN, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Interim President Mohammad Mokhber said on Thursday his country supports the implementation of the documents and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) concluded within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

He made the remarks at the 24th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO in Kazakhstan's capital Astana, according to Iran's official news agency IRNA.

The interim president said that there are numerous opportunities and capacities for the SCO members to cooperate in the areas of trade, production, energy, transportation, agriculture, customs affairs, telecommunications and development of artificial intelligence technology, noting that the members should explore the opportunities to improve the well-being of nations and help ensure sustainable peace and comprehensive development in the region and the world.

Mokhber added that activating transit corridors would play a key role in facilitating trade, promoting economic development and ensuring political stability in the SCO member states.

He also voiced Iran's strong opposition to using political tools, such as "cruel unilateral" sanctions, in the area of energy, adding that the country, as a major producer of energy, especially oil and gas, has always pursued the policy of promoting multilateralism in that area.

The SCO summit is currently being held in Astana, with attendance by China, Russia, Kazakhstan, India, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Türkiye and Turkmenistan, and the SCO Secretary-General and the Executive Director of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure.
