HANOI, July 4 (Xinhua) -- The export value of Vietnam's timber and wood products hit 7.95 billion U.S. dollars in the first half of 2024, up 21.2 percent year-on-year, VnExpress reported Thursday, citing the forestry department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

That resulted in a trade surplus of 6.67 billion dollars, 21.6 percent higher than in the same period last year, said the newspaper report.

China purchased nearly 1.06 billion dollars worth of forestry products from Vietnam during the cited period, up 46.6 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

Vietnam's timber export is expected to reach the value target of more than 14.2 billion dollars this year, an increase of about 6 percent compared to 2023, according to the agriculture ministry.
