RAMALLAH, July 3 (Xinhua) -- A young Palestinian man in the northern West Bank city of Jenin was killed by Israeli forces on Wednesday, the Palestinian health authorities said.
The ministry identified the man as 23-year-old Nidal Ziad Al-Amer, without offering further details about the incident.
Palestinian security sources told Xinhua that Israeli special forces killed Al-Amer after infiltrating the city of Jenin in a civilian car with a Palestinian license plate.
There was no immediate Israeli comment on the incident.
Israeli state-owned Kan TV news said Al-Amer is suspected of killing an Israeli soldier and wounding 16 others in an explosive device attack in the West Bank last week.
Cities, camps and villages of the West Bank have witnessed an escalation in tension since the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip in October 2023. Since then, more than 550 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire across the West Bank and East Jerusalem, according to the Palestinian health authorities. ■
