13.44 mln stimulant tablets seized in Myanmar's Nay Pyi Taw

YANGON, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities seized 13.44 million stimulant tablets in Myanmar's Nay Pyi Taw, state-run media Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) reported on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police intercepted a vehicle in Lewe township of Nay Pyi Taw union territory on June 25 and confiscated the drugs valued at 20.16 billion kyats (about 9.6 million U.S. dollars) along with two suspects, the report said.

According to the investigation, the seized drugs were being trafficked from Shan state to Yangon region.

Investigation revealed that seven other suspects were arrested in connection with the case in different locations -- three in Yamethin township of Mandalay region, three in Pyinmana township of Nay Pyi Taw union territory, and one in Shwepyitha township of Yangon region, the report said.

A total of nine suspects have been charged under the country's law, and an investigation is ongoing, it added.
