BEIRUT, July 2 (Xinhua) -- A Lebanese civilian was killed and five members of his family were injured on Tuesday in an Israeli airstrike on a house in southern Lebanon, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.

The sources, who spoke anonymously, said an Israeli warplane targeted with four air-to-surface missiles a house in Zalloutieh, a local authority in southwestern Lebanon, located in Tyre District, killing the civilian and destroying his home and agricultural equipment.

The sources noted that the victim is identified as Mehieddine Abu Dallah, who retired from the Internal Security Forces and worked as a local farmer, adding that members of the Lebanese Civil Defense transferred his body and the wounded people to a hospital in Tyre.

The sources added that Israeli drones and warplanes launched four airstrikes on three towns and villages in southern Lebanon, while artillery bombed seven border towns and villages with about 30 shells.

Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with Hamas' attack on Israel the day before. Israel then retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.

The level of tension between Hezbollah and the Israeli army has escalated recently, as the Israeli military announced "its approval of operational plans for an attack on Lebanon."

Meanwhile, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah warned that no place in Israel "will be safe" from his party's missiles in the event of an outbreak of war.
