SYDNEY, July 2 (Xinhua) -- A teenage boy has been taken into custody after stabbing a man on the grounds of the University of Sydney.

At about 8:35 a.m. local time on Tuesday, emergency services were called to an educational facility along Parramatta Road in Camperdown, following reports of a stabbing.

New South Wales Police Force confirmed in a statement that a 22-year-old man received treatment at the scene before he was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Officers established a crime scene and were informed that a male boarded a bus on Parramatta Road after the incident occurred.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested shortly near Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and he is currently assisting officers with inquiries.

Neither person is believed to be known to each other.

Police also assured the public that there is no ongoing risk to the community.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, tutors at the university have received a lockdown notice.

"As a precautionary measure there may be an increased security and police presence on campus while investigations continue," a spokesperson was quoted as saying.

The University of Sydney is located less than three km southwest of the city's central business district. It merely takes a 10-minute drive to reach the facility from the city center.
