GAZA, July 2 (Xinhua) -- At least 14 Palestinians were killed on Tuesday by Israeli attacks targeting several areas in the Gaza Strip, said Palestinian sources.

Security and medical sources told Xinhua that eight people were killed and more than 30 others were injured with varying injuries as a result of Israeli missile and artillery shelling that targeted various areas of the cities of Khan Younis and Rafah.

Meanwhile, five Palestinians were killed and seven others injured, some of them in serious condition, as a result of artillery shelling of a number of homes on the outskirts of the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood in northern Gaza, according to the sources.

The sources reported that a child was killed in an airstrike on a house in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, while several others were injured as a result of a similar raid that targeted a house northwest of the camp.

Meanwhile, local sources and eyewitnesses reported to Xinhua that the Israeli army is besieging residential homes in various areas of the Shujaiya neighborhood, which is witnessing a massive military operation for the sixth day in a row.

The attacks came as the Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported in a press statement that its Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Younis is crowded with large numbers of displaced people after the Israeli army notified residents to evacuate the eastern areas of the city.

Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee said in a press statement on Tuesday that warplanes, in cooperation with the Southern Command, raided "terrorist" targets the past night in Khan Younis, which witnessed the launching of about 20 rocket shells towards the towns surrounding the Gaza Strip.

He added that among the targets were a weapons depot, operational apartments, and other "terrorist structures."

Adraee accused Hamas of "continuously and systematically violating international law, exploiting civil society in Gaza as human shields for terrorist activities" against Israel.

During the past 24 hours, the Israeli military killed 25 people and wounded 81 others, bringing the total death toll to 37,925 and injuries to 87,141 since the Palestinian-Israeli conflict broke out in early October 2023, the Gaza-based health authorities said in a statement on Tuesday.
