RAMALLAH, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Two Palestinians were killed on Monday by the Israeli army during a military operation in the Nour Shams refugee camp, east of the city of Tulkarm in the West Bank, Palestinian sources said.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health said in a brief statement that a child and a woman were killed by Israeli army gunfire in Tulkarm, noting that four others were injured with varying injuries.

The statement did not provide further details about the incident.

Palestinian security sources told Xinhua that Israeli forces stormed the camp at dawn, prevented residents from leaving or entering it, and deployed snipers on the roofs and inside the high-rise buildings adjacent to and surrounding the camp.

The sources said the Israeli forces caused severe damage to the camp's infrastructure, "sabotaged" public and private property, and also destroyed the main water line.

The Israeli attack also set a house in the camp on fire, damaging several nearby houses, the sources added.

The latest incident has brought the Palestinian death toll from Israeli attacks since October 2023 to more than 550 in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli army on the incident.
