JERUSALEM, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Super League basketball club Hapoel Haifa announced on Sunday the signing of forward Sylven Landesberg, who played four seasons in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league, on a two-year deal.
The 34-year-old American, who also holds Israeli and Austrian passports, played college basketball for the Virginia Cavaliers and began his professional career at Maccabi Haifa in 2010.
Two years later he joined Maccabi Tel Aviv, with whom he won EuroLeague and Israeli league titles in 2014, along with five State Cup titles.
After five years at Maccabi, he moved to Estudiantes, where in April 2018 he scored a then career-high 48 points in a 100-95 away win over Barcelona in the Spanish ACB League, before moving on to play for Turk Telekom.
Landesberg moved to China in 2019, joining CBA side the Zhejiang Golden Bulls, where he averaged 26.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and three assists per game in 71 games over two seasons.
In January 2021, he scored a career-high 55 points in the Bulls' 120-119 away win over the Shandong Heroes.
Between late 2021 and 2023 he played for the Beijing Royal Fighters and Shandong. Last season, he returned to Spain, where he played for the EuroCup side Gran Canaria.
"This is a very significant signing for the team we are building," said Hapoel Haifa head coach Elad Hasin. "Sylven is a very versatile player with impressive offensive abilities. He is a leader and has experience at the highest levels." ■
