KAMPALA, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's population has reached 45,935,046, an increase of 11.3 million people since the last census in 2014, according to the preliminary results of the latest national census released by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) on Thursday.
The country has 10.8 million households, up from 7.2 million in 2014. 50.5 percent of the population is aged between 0 and 17, while 22.7 percent is youth aged between 18 and 30, said Chris Mukiza, UBOS executive director, during the launching ceremony in Kampala, the capital of Uganda.
Kampala remains the most populous city, with a daily population of 627,340 visitors and 1,875,834 residents, according to the UBOS.
"I was thinking the population is at about 48 or 49 million people, but I was surprised that it is below 46 million people," said Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who officiated the launch.
The UBOS said it would further undertake a post-enumeration survey to check the quality of the data and carry out data analysis before releasing the final results in September. ■
