JERUSALEM, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Israeli women's basketball State Cup holder Hapoel Lev Jerusalem announced on Wednesday the signing of WNBA forward Emily Engstler who currently plays for the Washington Mystics.
The 24-year-old American is expected to join the Israeli side at the end of the ongoing WNBA season and ahead of the start of the Israeli Women's Super League season in mid-October.
Engstler played college basketball at Syracuse and Louisville, with which she reached the Women's NCAA Final Four, and was selected by the Indiana Fever as the fourth overall pick in the 2022 WNBA draft.
She has played 58 WNBA games in Indiana, Minnesota Lynx, and Washington, averaging 4.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
Last Saturday, she scored a personal best of 23 points in Washington's 97-69 home win over the Dallas Wings.
In between, she played for the French side Flammes Carolo Basket, averaging 10 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game in the EuroCup Women competition.
Engstler also won the silver medal with the U.S. national team at the 2022 FIBA 3x3 U-23 World Cup in Romania.
Lev Jerusalem chairwoman Neta Abogov said, "Emily has played at the highest levels in the United States and Europe. I'm sure she will fit in well with the girls on our team and contribute to achieving our goals this coming season." ■
