NIAMEY, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Statistics released by Niger's anti-drug trafficking agency showed that the country is becoming a country of high consumption of drugs, said Nigerien Minister of Justice Alio Daouda on Tuesday.
Data collected by the Central Office for the Repression of Illicit Drug Trafficking indicated that about 77.52 kg of cannabis resins, 10.76 tonnes of cannabis herbs and 61.63 kg of cocaine were seized in 2023, said Daouda on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which falls on June 26.
Adolescents and young adults are particularly at risk of drug abuse, said Daouda, noting that the government will intensify actions to combat the abuse of illicit substances and drugs in Niger. ■
