COLOMBO, June 26 (Xinhua) -- The merchandise export performance of Sri Lanka recorded an increase of 9.4 percent in May compared to April, Sri Lanka export development board said on Wednesday.

Quoting data released by Sri Lanka Customs, the board said the merchandise export performance in May amounted to 960.2 million U.S. dollars, which decreased by 5.81 percent year on year.

The estimated value of services exports for May was 327.35 million dollars, an increase of 21.24 percent over the corresponding period of 2023.

Export earnings from Rubber and Rubber finished products have increased by 5.62 percent to 81.17 million dollars in May compared to the corresponding month of last year, and from coconut-based products by 2.88 percent.

Export earnings from tea, which made up 12 percent of merchandise exports, decreased by 1.1 percent to 115 million dollars in May 2024 compared to the same period of 2023, the board said.
