BEIRUT, June 24 (Xinhua) -- A Lebanese civilian was killed, and a civil defense member wounded on Monday in Israeli airstrikes that targeted several areas in southern Lebanon, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.

The sources, who spoke anonymously, said that the civilian was killed in an Israeli airstrike in the city of Bint Jbeil, and the civil defense member was wounded in an airstrike in al-Taybeh village.

Israeli drones and warplanes carried out eight air strikes on six towns and villages in the border area in southern Lebanon, destroying dozens of houses and infrastructure, according to the sources.

The sources added that an Israeli drone attacked the Massa camp of Lebanese Hezbollah, located in the city of Baalbek in eastern Lebanon, with four air-to-surface missiles.

"The Massa camp includes military sites, an air defense unit, and a training center for Hezbollah, and it was evacuated with the beginning of the battles between Hezbollah and the Israeli army," said the sources.

Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with Hamas' attack on Israel the day before. Israel then retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.
