GAZA, June 25 (Xinhua) -- At least 26 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes that hit two residential homes, two schools housing displaced people east and west of Gaza City, and a gathering on Tuesday, Palestinian sources reported.
The General Directorate of Civil Defense said in a statement that its crews dealt with three attacks respectively on a school in the Al-Darraj area, east of Gaza City, and another school in the Shati camp, west of the city, and a house belonging to the Al-Zamili family in the Al-Shuja'iya neighborhood.
The statement added that its crews recovered the bodies of 13 people from the these locations and attended to dozens of wounded people, all of whom were transferred to hospitals for treatment.
Meanwhile, security sources reported that Israeli aircraft launched several missiles targeting a house belonging to the Haniyeh family in the Al-Shati refugee camp, west of the city, and it was leveled to the ground.
Medical sources told Xinhua that the raid killed 10 people, including the sister of the head of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, and a number of his family members remained trapped under the rubble.
Later, Israeli aircraft struck a gathering of Palestinians west of Gaza City, killing three people and wounding a number of them, according to local sources and eyewitnesses.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement on Tuesday that the Israeli army struck two structures that were being used by Hamas "terrorists" in Shati and Daraj Tuffah in the northern Gaza Strip.
"The terrorists operated inside school compounds that were used by Hamas as a shield for its terrorist activities," it said.
"The terrorist operatives were involved in the planning of numerous terror attacks against Israel, and some of the terrorists were involved in holding hostages captive and took part in the October 7th massacre," it added.
Israel launched a large-scale offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip to retaliate against a Hamas rampage through the southern Israeli border on Oct. 7, 2023, during which about 1,200 people were killed and around 250 were taken hostage. ■
