BERLIN, June 25 (Xinhua) -- German tech giant Siemens AG launched on Tuesday one of Europe's largest urban development projects.

The Siemensstadt Square "district of future" will cover a residential and working area of approximately 188 acres (about 76 hectares), to accommodate around 35,000 people, according to the company's press release.

Digital technologies from the entire Siemens Xcelerator platform, including an end-to-end digital twin and artificial intelligence, are expected to enhance the district's futuristic livable space.

By 2035, Siemens plans to invest 750 million euros (803 million U.S. dollars) in the project, aiming to develop Siemensstadt Square into a partnership hub, with the total project volume expected to reach up to 4.5 billion euros.

Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner highlighted the project's significance marking the start of an advanced, sustainable smart city in the fast-growing Berlin.

The groundbreaking ceremony marks the start of the construction phase for Module 1, with the initial two buildings expected to be completed by the fall of 2026.
