COLOMBO, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's inflation decreased to 1.6 percent in May from 2.7 percent in April according to the national consumer price index, the Department of Census and Statistics said on Monday.

The department said the inflation in the food category dropped from 3.3 percent to 0.5 percent during the period, while the inflation in the non-food category had increased from 2.3 percent to 2.4 percent.

Sri Lanka's inflation has been easing steadily since September 2022 when the inflation was at 69.8 percent. The World Bank has projected an overall growth rate of 2.2 percent for Sri Lanka this year.
