SHENYANG, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Xu Wenrong, a former deputy general manager of China National Petroleum Corporation, stood trial at the Intermediate People's Court of Shenyang in northeast China's Liaoning Province on Friday.

According to prosecutors, Xu took undue advantage of his various positions from 1998 to 2023 to assist individuals and organizations in matters concerning obtaining contracts, purchasing equipment, business operation and personal promotion. In return, he accepted money and valuables worth 53.29 million yuan (about 7.48 million U.S. dollars).

At the trial, the prosecutors presented evidence and the defendant and his lawyers examined them. The two sides gave their respective accounts, according to a court statement.
