SARAJEVO, June 20 (Xinhua) -- The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) adopted the decision on the strategy against corruption and its action plan for 2024 to 2028 on Tuesday.
This plan is aligned with 14 key priorities that BiH needs to fulfill for membership in the European Union (EU). Accession to the EU is a strategic priority for BiH, and the fight against corruption is one of the key challenges to the rule of law.
BiH has not had a strategy and action plan against corruption for the last five years, as the last such strategy expired in 2019. In previous years, BiH recorded a steady decline in the ranking of the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), made by Transparency International (TI).
The Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) rates 180 countries and territories around the world by their perceived levels of public sector corruption, scoring on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).
According to the latest statistics of CPI for 2023, with a score of 35, BiH ranks 108th out of 180 countries on the corruption perception scale. It has the lowest rating among the Western Balkans countries, and has declined drastically in the last decade. ■
