YANGON, June 19 (Xinhua) -- An event marking the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence was held at the China Cultural Center in Yangon on Wednesday.

The event was jointly organized by the China Foundation for Peace and Development, the China Cultural Center in Yangon, Yangon University of Foreign Languages and Myanmar Chinese Cooperation and Communication Center.

Qiao Li, counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, said at the event that 70 years ago, Chinese and Myanmar leaders jointly advocated the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence with political wisdom and foresight, which has become the basic norms of modern international relations and continuously injected vitality into China-Myanmar friendship.

China and Myanmar have carried out pragmatic cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor and achieved fruitful results, she said.

China will continue to support bilateral civil groups to strengthen exchanges and pragmatic cooperation, and gather non-governmental forces to jointly build a China-Myanmar community with a shared future, she added.

Daw Than Than Nu, president of U Nu Daw Mya Yi Foundation and daughter of former Prime Minister U Nu, expressed her joy and appreciation for the achievements made by China through constantly deepened cooperation with countries including Myanmar under the Belt and Road Initiative.

She hopes that people from all countries around the world could embrace the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, and work together to build a peaceful and stable world.

More than 100 representatives from over 40 Chinese and Myanmar non-governmental organizations and enterprises, think tanks, media organizations and universities participated in the event.
