LUANDA, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Nearly half of Angola's 1,634 oil wells are inactive, and the authorities plan to collaborate with oil companies to reactivate some of the wells, an official said Monday.
While some of the 767 inactive wells will be permanently abandoned due to depleted reserves, others may be reopened when feasible, Ana Miala, executive administrator of Angola's National Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG), said at a press conference in Luanda, the capital of Angola.
"We are in the phase of reassessing the closed wells with our partners," she said.
Paulino Jeronimo, president of the ANPG's Board of Directors, said during the same event that the country's main plans and strategies for the period 2023-2027 focus on implementing the gas project and continuing to enhance the oil sector's competitiveness.
He added that efforts are also directed at completing the implementation of the 2020-2025 Exploration Strategies and the 2019-2025 Oil Concession Allocation Strategies, which aim to maintain an average daily production of 1.07 million barrels of oil.
According to the agency's latest data, Angola's oil production in April exceeded 32 million barrels, averaging 1.07 million barrels per day. ■
