Laos, Hungary to enhance bilateral cooperation

VIENTIANE, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto paid an official visit to Laos to further strengthen the longstanding relations and cooperation based on the strategic partnership between Laos and Hungary.

Szijjarto visited Laos from June 13 to 14 at the invitation of Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith, according to a press release by Laos' Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.

During a meeting in Lao capital Vientiane, both sides highly valued the close relations between Laos and Hungary over the past 62 years, which have continued to be enhanced constantly on the basis of strategic partnership, mutual understanding, trust and assistance as reflected in the regular exchange of visits between senior leaders of the two countries and mutual assistance.

The Hungarian minister and his Lao counterpart also took part in opening the Hungarian embassy in Vientiane on Friday, demonstrating the will of the Lao and Hungarian governments to further enhance bilateral relations.

Both sides agreed to maintain a regular exchange of visits between senior leaders of the two countries, promote people-to-people exchanges, enhance tourism between Laos and Hungary, along with exchange and training between young diplomats.

Both sides agreed to increase cooperation in other potential areas, including natural resources, environment, and education. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common interest.
