WINDHOEK, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Namibia has been placed in Group C alongside Angola, Lesotho, and Seychelles for the upcoming Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup, scheduled to take place from June 26 to July 7 in South Africa.

Featuring 12 teams, the group stage will run from June 26 to July 3, with the semifinals scheduled for July 5, the final and third-place playoff taking place two days later.

COSAFA emphasized in a statement that the format aims to ensure each participating country engages in a minimum of three and a maximum of five matches throughout the regional tournament. Additionally, the schedule incorporates extra rest days between most group matches, prioritizing player welfare.

Reflecting on the historical significance of the COSAFA Cup, the regional body noted, "The 22 previous editions of the COSAFA Cup have seen some great performances and incredible games that have been written into the folklore of Southern African football, but only five nations have lifted the coveted trophy."

In addition to Namibia's Group C, the other groups and their respective contenders are as follows:

Group A: South Africa, Mozambique, Eswatini, Botswana.

Group B: Zambia, team to be confirmed, Comoros and Zimbabwe.
