NEW DELHI, June 11 (Xinhua) -- A massive power outage Tuesday hit several parts of the Indian capital territory, officials said.
The local government has attributed the outage to a fire at a substation of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited in Uttar Pradesh's Mandola.
"The power restoration process has begun and electricity is now gradually returning to different areas. But this major failure in the national power grid is extremely worrying," Delhi Power Minister Atishi said.
The outages have come at a time when the capital territory is battling the soaring temperature, thus adding to the woes of the residents.
According to Meteorological Department officials, the temperature in Delhi Tuesday afternoon hovered around 42 degrees Celsius. ■
