CAIRO, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Egypt welcomed on Tuesday a resolution adopted by the UN Security Council on Monday, which aimed at reaching a comprehensive ceasefire deal to end the war in Gaza.

In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that Egypt renews its call for Israel to comply with its obligations under international law, and "to stop the war it is waging against the Gaza Strip."

Egypt also calls on both Israel and Hamas to take serious steps towards concluding a ceasefire deal as soon as possible and to begin implementing its provisions without delay or conditions, it added.

The statement underscored the importance of serious action by international players to push for implementing the two-state solution, which is "the sole guarantee" for ending the crisis.

On Monday night, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (AL) Ahmed Aboul-Gheit welcomed the adoption of the resolution by the Security Council in a post on the social media platform X.

"The Israeli aggression must be stopped immediately," the AL chief added.

The UN Security Council on Monday adopted a resolution aimed at reaching a comprehensive ceasefire deal in three phases to end the war in Gaza.

Adopted by a large majority with 14 votes in favor and Russia abstaining, the resolution also urges both parties to the conflict to fully implement the terms of the proposal "without delay and without condition."
