BEIJING, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Hollywood action film "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" dominated the box office chart on the Chinese mainland on its debut Friday, official data showed.
This Warner Bros. Pictures' production generated 7.89 million yuan (1.11 million U.S. dollars) in box office revenue on the day, data from the China Movie Data Information Network showed.
Directed by Australian filmmaker George Miller and starring Anya Taylor-Joy in the title role, the film is the fifth installment in the Mad Max franchise and a prequel to the 2015 hit "Mad Max: Fury Road."
It was followed by the domestic teen comedy "Be My Friend," which raked in box office sales of 7.12 million yuan on Friday.
Domestic crime comedy "Walk the Line" came in third with a daily earning of 6.58 million yuan.
The total box office revenue on the Chinese mainland stood at 48.16 million yuan on Friday.
The three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday begins on Saturday in China, with a diverse offering of movies expected to generate significant box office sales. ■
