ACCRA, June 8 (Xinhua) -- The 23rd "Chinese Bridge" language proficiency contest in Ghana concluded on Friday, with 12 Ghanaian contestants from three public universities competing in the grand finale.
The contestants took exams, delivered speeches and performed various art forms to demonstrate their understanding and mastery of the Chinese language and culture, which captivated the audience.
Lilian Ama Serwa Tobias, this year's champion, expressed her excitement about her achievement, saying the Chinese language opens up limitless opportunities.
"I am thrilled that I brought success to my school, my teachers and those who supported me. This award means a lot to me. I had an interest in learning Chinese, so I decided to study it. I even got a job doing translation work entirely in Chinese, and they paid me well," said Lilian.
She encouraged other Ghanaian students to seize the opportunities offered by the Chinese language and culture and explore more possibilities in their lives. "Chinese businesses are establishing themselves in Ghana, providing opportunities to work for these companies, which helps reduce Ghana's unemployment rate," she added.
Tu Santang, a Chinese teacher at the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast, expressed his satisfaction with the competition's outcome. "My students and I worked very hard for this competition, so I'm delighted to see the excellent results. The Chinese language is becoming an international language, and I'm thrilled to be a Chinese teacher helping Ghanaian students learn it."
The "Chinese Bridge" language proficiency contest is an international competition organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation in China. It provides a platform for Chinese learners worldwide to showcase their Chinese language skills, share their learning experiences, evaluate their learning outcomes, and build bridges of friendship across the globe. ■
