PARIS, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Paris road traffic was heavily disrupted on Wednesday morning as U.S. President Joe Biden arrived at Orly Airport for his state visit.
The Prefecture of Police announced further road closures and heightened security throughout his stay.
French media reported that several roads in Paris were closed on Wednesday between Paris and Orly as Biden arrived at the airport shortly before 10 a.m. (0800 GMT). Half of the ring road of Paris was closed during the rush hour, and the west of Paris was paralyzed.
Traffic jams on Ile-de-France roads stretched to an exceptional 200 km at 10:30 a.m. (0830 GMT), significantly above the average, reports BFMTV.
Biden was welcomed at the airport by French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal. On Thursday, he will participate in the 80th anniversary commemorations of the D-Day landings in Normandy. ■
