JAKARTA, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on Thursday met her Rwandan counterpart Vincent Biruta in Jakarta to deliberate on bilateral economic collaboration.
"Today, we have signed the Memorandum of Understanding on General Cooperation to further enhance our economic ties, which includes sectors such as trade, agriculture, industry, energy, and mining," Marsudi announced during a joint press conference.
Discussions also covered the establishment of a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between the two nations and the potential for a PTA with the East African Community.
The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry reported a 100 percent increase in trade with Rwanda last year, with a 32-percent rise in the first quarter of this year, indicating significant potential for further economic engagement, as per Marsudi's assessment.
Additionally, they addressed collaborative efforts to combat transnational organized crime and reaffirmed their ongoing support for Palestine.
"These accords reflect our shared dedication to nurturing a more profound and systematic partnership across diverse sectors," Biruta said at the event.
He expressed the hope for an ever-strengthening ties between the nations, founded on mutual respect and a common vision for the future. ■
