MEXICO CITY, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Serbian manager Veljko Paunovic has emerged as a frontrunner to assume the vacant managerial post at Tigres UANL, according to widespread media reports in Mexico.
Tigres are in advanced talks with Paunovic and hope to incorporate the 46-year-old in the club's pre-season training camp on the Yucatan Peninsula, which runs until June 15, reports said.
Paunovic, a former attacking midfielder who was capped twice for Serbia and Montenegro, has been out of work since parting ways with Guadalajara last December.
News of Paunovic's possible appointment came less than a day after Tigres announced the sacking of Uruguayan manager Robert Siboldi.
The 2024 Liga MX Apertura season is scheduled to begin on July 5. ■
