JAKARTA -- One sand mining worker was killed and three others were missing after being buried by a landslide on Tuesday in the Indonesian province of East Java, an official said in a statement on Wednesday.
The miners were reportedly working on sand mining near a cliff at the banks of a river in Pronojowo village in the Lumajang area.
Patria Dwi Hastiadi, head of the Lumajang disaster mitigation agency, said one miner managed to escape. (Indonesia-Landslide)

WASHINGTON -- The United States will maintain its policy of not sending military advisors to Ukraine, a top U.S. national security official said Tuesday.

NEW DELHI -- India's ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has secured a majority of the seats in the Lok Sabha (the lower house of Parliament), winning the 2024 Indian general elections.

LJUBLJANA -- The Slovenian Parliament on Tuesday voted to approve the proposal of recognizing the statehood of Palestine, a move the legislator body said would hopefully help stop the violence in Gaza.
Fifty-two parliamentary members out of 90 seats voted for the recognition, making Slovenia, currently a non-permanent member of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, the fourth European country after Spain, Norway and Ireland in recent weeks to make the decision. (Slovenia-Palestine) ■
