MANILA, June 3 (Xinhua) -- The Kanlaon volcano in central Philippines erupted on Monday, spewing a plume that rose to 5,000 meters, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
"An ongoing eruption at Kanlaon volcano producing a 5,000-meter plume. Details to follow," the institute said in an advisory posted on social media around 7 p.m. local time.
Alert Level 1, which means a low level of volcanic unrest, prevails over the volcano, it added. ■
