TOKYO, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher on Friday as investors moved to buy on dips after the market's three-day losing streak.

Japan's benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, ended up 433.77 points, or 1.14 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 38,487.90.

The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 46.29 points, or 1.70 percent, higher at 2,772.49.

Market watchers here noted that dip-buying kicked in on Friday after the benchmark index fell to a month-low level in the previous trading day, on top of the view that possible interest rate hikes are paused for the time being.

However, the Nikkei index in the morning was notably restrained from rising further due to the lack of particular bullish factors, partly tracking the decline in the overnight U.S. stock market, according to analysts.

On the Prime Market, gainers were led by securities, electric power and gas, and real estate issues.

Issues that advanced outpaced those that declined by 1,512 to 117, while 18 ended the day unchanged.
