SHANGHAI, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Puy du Fou, a French theme park operator known for historical presentations, launched its immersive theater in Shanghai in a trial operation on Wednesday.
The Sino-French joint project, named SAGA City of Light, involves a total investment of 650 million yuan (about 91.4 million U.S. dollars).
Puy du Fou Asia, founded in Shanghai in 2018, is dedicated to innovatively telling the stories of China.
After years of development, the SAGA City of Light has recreated 46,000 square meters of scenes of Shanghai in the 1930s for audiences and visitors, said Joseph Corbo Courtemanche, chief operating officer & executive producer of Puy du Fou Asia.
More than 150 performers conduct interactive performances in 50 large-scale scenes, with over 26,000 retro props.
With an indoor performance area of 12,110 square meters, the SAGA City of Light was officially certified on Wednesday by the Guinness World Records as the world's largest immersive theater in terms of performance area.
The project is expected to receive 700,000 visitors this year and some 1 million visitors annually in the coming years. ■
