TEHRAN, May 28 (Xinhua) -- The Iranian parliament re-elected Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf on Tuesday as its speaker for a one-year term, the state-run IRIB TV reported.

He was appointed along with other members of the legislative body's presiding board at the second session of the newly-formed 12th parliament, said the report.

Qalibaf, representing Tehran province, outrivaled Mojtaba Zolnour and Manouchehr Mottaki, the respective representatives of Qom and Tehran provinces in the parliament.

He secured 198 of the total 287 votes to preside over the parliament for the fifth consecutive year.

At the session, the lawmakers also elected Hamidreza Haji-Babaei as the first deputy speaker and Ali Nikzad as the second deputy.

The parliament's 290 newly-elected members were chosen through two rounds of elections held on March 1 and May 10. These members are set to serve a four-year term in the legislative body.
