JOHANNESBURG, May 28 (Xinhua) -- A total of 13 people died on Tuesday in a head-on collision involving a heavy motor vehicle and a minibus taxi in the Limpopo province of South Africa, said local authorities.
The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety said the accident occurred at R521 road in Capricorn District around 5:50 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
"It is now confirmed that 13 people have perished on the scene -- two drivers and 11 passengers from a Toyota minibus," said the department. "According to reports, a Hyundai heavy motor vehicle collided head-on with an oncoming Toyota minibus."
"Lack of clear visibility has been attributed as the possible cause of the accident," it said.
Road accidents are not uncommon in South Africa. In March, 45 people coming from Botswana to attend for Easter festivities in South Africa died in a bus accident in Limpopo. ■
