GAZA, May 27 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian medical official announced on Monday the closure of the Kuwaiti hospital, one of the two hospitals still functioning in Gaza's southernmost city of Rafah, due to the Israeli military operation in the city.

"We announce the closure of the Kuwait Specialized Hospital and the transfer of medical staff to the field hospital being prepared in the vicinity," Suhaib Al-Hams, the hospital's director, said in a press statement.

The statement mentioned that the step was taken due to the Israeli army's expansion of its military operation in Rafah and its repeated deliberate targeting of the hospital's surroundings, the latest of which was targeting the hospital gate, resulting in the deaths of two medics.

Meanwhile, Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza Strip, warned that the Israeli army's prevention of fuel supplies could lead to a suspension of health services within the next four hours.

The hospital said in a statement that the Israeli army has been preventing fuel supplies since Sunday.

The statement noted that the hospital provides medical care and health services to more than 1,200 sick and injured people, including 600 kidney failure patients who require kidney dialysis. However, their treatment will be suspended within a few hours if fuel is not supplied and power goes out.

The statement called on the international community to pressure Israel to supply 50,000 liters of fuel to ensure the medical staff's work for the next 10 days.
